Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Business Licenses: Collect information from customers, type proper forms, obtain approval from County Assessment/Treasury office, calculate and collect fees, verify municipality codes, issue new and renewal licenses and file.
- Marriage Licenses: Collect information from customer and issue oath, verify identification and current marital status, provide information on usage of license and set appointments for ceremonies if necessary. Collect proper fees.
- Civil/Marriage Ceremony: Perform marriage ceremonies by appointment. Ensure that both parties sign Marriage Docket. Collect proper fees.
- Certified Copies: Issue certified copies of marriage licenses and assist the public in obtaining marriage license records. Collect proper fees.
- Swear in notary publics and special police commissions. Ensure that they sign test book and enter information in computer. Collect proper fees from notary publics. Authenticate notary signatures by verifying status of notary and issuing authentication certificate. Collect proper fees.
- File and record foreign marriages. Verify citizenship of one party and that document is original with proper seal and translation. Enter information in computer and issue certified copies. Collect proper fees.
- Answer telephone and provide information on license department procedures and other state agencies. Operate cash register, ensure proper charge codes are used, accept credit cards. Close cash register and reconcile all funds collected for end of day processing. Ensure that all necessary documentation is submitted.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma (or GED equivalent).
- Experience: One (1) year of general clerical experience. Preferred: Knowledge of E-License and Marriage in Maryland (MIM) program.
