Perishable Manager

About the role

Manages achievement of department sales and profits using acceptable business practices. Provides leadership of department personnel. Maintains product levels and quality control in frozen food and dairy departments. Ensures products are displayed in accordance with Brookshire Grocery Company standards and all regulatory food safety practices. Promotes customer service and sales building practices.

Responsibilities

• Carrries out management responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training and developing partners; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining partners; and scheduling, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
• Reviews historical data to predict future sales from ads and promotions.
• Manages inventory using item management processes to ensure satisfactory in-stock levels.
• Reviews profit and loss, sales, shrink, and labor data; provides verbal or written summary to upper management regarding any related issues.
• Enforces quality control and food safety standards and ensures dated products are stocked and rotated properly.
• Promotes product sales through use of suggestive selling initiatives and appealing product displays.
• Safely works with sharp objects such as knives, box cutters, etc.
• Safely operates a bailer.
• Safely operates manual or electric pallet jack.
• Uses non-precision and precision hand tools.
• Communicates (in written and verbal form) with customers and partners.
• Learns new technology systems, methods and processes.
• Works flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Remedies or places appropriate warning signs or devices around or near the hazard as soon as is reasonably possible.
• Reports any potential hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.

Requirements

• Minimum of 18 years of age required.
• Partners must be 21 years of age or older to drive for Company business in accordance with the BGC Business Driver Policy.
• High school Diploma or GED required.
• Two or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or higher education required.
• Food Handler certification required.
• Manager Food Safety certification required.
• AML certification required.
• Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) certification required.
• TABC/LACT/AATC certification required where applicable.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of perishable department operations.
• Advanced knowledge of in-store ordering machine and inventory management processes.
• Advanced knowledge of scheduling software systems.
• Ability to safely work with sharp objects such as knives, box cutters, etc.
• Ability to safely operate a bailer.
• Ability to operate manual or electric pallet jack.
• Ability to use non-precision and precision hand tools.
• Ability to effectively communicate (in written and verbal form) with customers and partners.
• Ability to lead and motivate others.
• Ability to work well with fellow partners and promote a team environment.
• Attentive to potential hazards and able to remedy or place appropriate warning signs or devices around or near the hazard as soon as is reasonably possible.
• Able to report any potential hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.
