Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating activities in the nursing station.
  • Performs clerical and receptionist duties.
  • Maintains the physical environment of the nursing station.
  • Measures and records intake and output, vital signs, O2 Saturation, weight, height, positions patients, lifts and turns patients, applies/utilizes special equipment, assists with bedpan, urinal or commode use, ambulates patients, pre- and post-operative care, applies/removes anti-embolism stockings and SCD devices, removes Foley catheters, provides perineal care, performs vaginal irrigations, applies heat and cold, cares for incontinent patients, performs skin care, rounds, uses AIDET, applies the “4 Ps”, responds to patient needs, performs hand hygiene, uses two patient identifiers, etc.
  • Coordinates unit functions to ensure safe and smooth operations.
  • Observes cardiac monitoring status on all patients, attends to monitor station during breaks and lunch, validates cardiac alarms, documents validation, performs monitor counts, transcribes orders, assembles, maintains and disassembles medical records, answers phones, intercoms, and communicates messages.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Maintains well-organized, supplied, clean nursing unit, maintains statistics/logs as required, and supports compliance requirements.
  • Communicates with different personalities and engages in face-to-face discussions, deals with unpleasant or physically aggressive personalities, deals with conflict, communicates clearly and accurately, receives delegation, works in groups, performs structured and unstructured work, meets time pressure and time lines, performs in an exact and accurate manner, uses electronic mail, telephone, and texting.
  • Exposes to human body fluids, disease, infection, lab chemicals, and hazardous materials and/or cleaning solutions, requires wearing of common protective and safety equipment, must be able to tolerate prolonged periods of standing and walking, must be able to reach reasonable distances in any direction, must be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, sit, stoop, lift, run in an emergency, must be able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation, must have normal or corrected to within normal range hearing and vision, must possess stamina to work 12-hour shifts.

Requirements

  • Approved previous experience in giving patient care or completion of in-service education classes.
  • Approved previous experience in clerical functions or completion of in-service education classes.
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Candidates with patient care experience, those currently enrolled in a nursing program, or those with prior customer service experience are preferred.
  • Requires computer and/or computer software knowledge or experience.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider training required.
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
