Perinatal Ultrasonographer III - Per Diem

About the Role

This is a per diem position in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine department located at One Brookline Place. The unit is a very busy, high-acuity outpatient setting providing quality care.

Responsibilities

• Perform a wide range of ultrasound procedures including obstetrical, gynecological, Doppler studies, and invasive procedures.
• Select appropriate equipment and transducers for tests as ordered.
• Consult with patients, obtain necessary information, explain procedures, allay apprehensions, and position patients appropriately.
• Assist physicians during sterile invasive procedures (e.g., amniocentesis).
• Import data and images into the ultrasound reporting package and PACS; provide images on film and paper when needed.
• Detect pathology and other factors (e.g., follow-up, changes in shape, echogenicity).
• Determine images appropriate for diagnostic purposes.
• Assist other divisions during procedures.
• Perform functions in areas outside the Ultrasound Suite, including the Operating Room, Intensive Care Units, L&D, Antepartum, and Triage Unit using portable ultrasound equipment.
• Participate in the education of physician trainees (OB/GYN residents, MFM fellows, and student sonographers); monitor and document progress.
• Contribute to the orientation of new sonographers and serve as a team resource for technical information, application support, training, and guidance.
• Participate in developing new training tools or models to improve department efficiency, patient care, and satisfaction.
• Perform routine clerical duties: review daily clinic schedules, monitor urgent add-ons and inpatient orders, review patient charts and maternal serum screening results, track inventory supplies, maintain cleanliness of work area, empty laundry, and stock rooms at the end of each shift.
• Maintain appropriate high-level disinfection (HLD) of ultrasound transducers for patient protection and infection control.
• Participate in staff educational in-house presentations of research and projects for monthly lunch-and-learn sessions.
• Contribute to and participate in the publishing of articles for MFM Ultrasound literature.

Requirements

• Vocational or technical training in Diagnostic Medical Sonography required; Associate's degree in Ultrasound preferred.
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (new hires have 30 days to provide BLS certification through the American Heart Association).
• 0-1 years of related work experience in Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM).
• Formal clinical training in a high-risk Maternal-Fetal Medicine organization.
• Nuchal Translucency (NT) certification required (new staff have 30 days to complete certification).
• Experience with computer systems, including web-based applications and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access).

Physical Demands

Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force continually. The employee is physically active in all elements of the job.

Pay

The base hourly pay range for this position is $50.40 - $74.89. Actual compensation is determined based on factors such as seniority, education, training, relevant experience, certifications, geography, job responsibilities, and applicable shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, or overtime.
