Responsibilities
- Properly identifies and prepares patients for the examination and obtains optimal images in an efficient manner to assist in patient work-up.
- Utilizes proper equipment and high-level disinfection to the examination and appropriate reporting.
- Comfortable performing transvaginal and operating room procedures.
- Scans efficiently to complete the appropriate number of daily scans.
- Maintains inventory of supplies.
- Maintains adequate records.
- Correctly completes charges and ensures proper billing, as observed by input from the scheduling manager.
- Outstanding communication skills, required to interact with patients and families to provide information about the content of the sonogram as it is being conducted.
- Responsible for patient safety, well-being and privacy at all times.
- Thoroughly explains the procedure and ensures patients’ physical and emotional comfort (observed by lead or management and noted by patient complaints).
- Performs various record keeping and customer service functions.
- Maintain open communication with staff and ensure feedback follows the appropriate chain to ensure the goals of the department are met and operations run efficiently.
- Maintains and cleans ultrasound equipment and examination rooms in compliance with universal precautions.
- Responsible for maintaining appropriate PPE standards, including the ability to properly don and doff PPE.
- Knowledge of universal precautions and bloodborne pathogens.
- Instruction students in clinical procedures.
- Participates in various teaching and learning opportunities in order to further his/her own personal knowledge and assist in expanding the knowledge of others.
Qualifications
- Registered in a minimum of two certifications by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) SPI and OB/GYN required.
- Successful completion of college curriculum (Allied health).
- Completion of formal Ultrasound training in a program accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP).
- Certification in Nuchal Translucency and CLEAR certified certification preferred.
- Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience in Perinatal/Maternal Fetal Medicine scanning are essential prerequisites.
- Experience in Fetal Echocardiography preferred.
- CPR or BLS based on AHA standards.
- In compliance with CME registry requirements and in good standing with all licenses and boards.
