About the Role

This position provides direct leadership, oversight, and coordination of perioperative technicians across surgical and procedural services. The role ensures safe, efficient, and standardized support for perioperative workflows including case preparation, anesthesia support, sterile processing coordination, and operating room turnover. Responsible for team performance, operational efficiency, equipment readiness, and collaboration across Surgical Services, Sterile Processing, and Anesthesia to support high-quality patient care and optimal throughput.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct supervision of perioperative technicians, including:
    • Daily oversight of work assignments and staffing coverage
    • Scheduling, timekeeping, and staffing adjustments based on volume
    • Performance management, coaching, and corrective action
  • Leads hiring, onboarding, training, and competency validation of staff
  • Promotes a culture of accountability, professionalism, and teamwork
  • Serves as escalation point for operational issues impacting perioperative technician services
  • Standardizes workflows and processes for:
    • Case cart preparation and room setup
    • Turnover processes and room readiness
    • Anesthesia support and equipment preparation
  • Coordinates technician support across all procedural areas where anesthesia services are provided
  • Monitors daily operations to ensure alignment with surgical schedule and case demands
  • Identifies workflow inefficiencies and implements process improvements
  • Oversees readiness, availability, and maintenance processes for:
    • Surgical equipment and case carts
    • Anesthesia machines and monitoring devices (in coordination with anesthesia and biomed)
  • Ensures appropriate handling, transport, and staging of equipment and supplies
  • Partners with Sterile Processing to ensure instrument flow and availability
  • Collaborates with:
    • OR Nursing Leadership
    • Anesthesia Leadership and providers
    • Sterile Processing Department (SPD)
    • Supply Chain and Biomedical Engineering
  • Facilitates effective communication across teams to ensure case readiness
  • Ensures adherence to infection prevention, safety, and regulatory standards
  • Supports quality initiatives related to:
    • Case readiness and turnover efficiency
    • Equipment safety and availability
    • Process consistency across shifts
  • Participates in audits, performance improvement initiatives, and accreditation readiness
  • Monitors and improves key performance indicators such as:
    • Room turnover times
    • Case readiness and delays
    • Staff productivity and utilization
  • Provides regular updates to leadership on operational performance
  • Supports data-driven decision making and staffing adjustments

Requirements

Education

  • Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred: Associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare or related field

Credentials/Licensure

  • Minimum: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or relevant certification preferred (if applicable based on internal standards). BLS certification

Experience

  • Minimum: 3–5 years healthcare experience in perioperative services, operating room support, or related healthcare environment
  • Preferred: Prior leadership, lead, or charge-level experience

  • Fast-paced clinical environment with frequent interruptions
  • Requires ability to multitask and respond to real-time operational needs
  • May be required to travel to other Trinity Health locations within West Michigan
