About the role

The Studio Operations and Support Consultant supports faculty and students in the operation and maintenance of specialized audio technologies, software, and equipment in the recording studios and production suites. They collaborate with Distributed Systems and Technical Maintenance teams and participate in various technology-related projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provides in-person, on-call, and remote support for a variety of technologies, systems, and services.
  • Supports classes, student sessions, daytime recording ensembles, grant sessions, and visiting artist events.
  • Troubleshoots unresolved technical issues and identifies recurring issues for resolution.
  • Collaborates with teams for room upgrades and new technology rollouts.
  • Tests and documents software and hardware for semesterly upgrades.
  • Supports events by setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and breaking down technology equipment.
  • Maintains continuity and adherence to protocols for studio operations.
  • Maintains detailed records and reports on facility and equipment use, technical issues, and policy infractions.
  • Serves as a supervisor for 50 studio assistants, training and overseeing their work.
  • Audits and verifies student submissions to a security log.
  • Coordinates with the Booking Office for session scheduling.
  • Trains new users on facility and equipment handling.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Production and Engineering or a similar music technology program.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a commercial recording facility.
  • Experience working at a higher education institution or within online education.

Skills

  • Highly developed skills in DAW operation, audio recording and mixing, signal flow, microphone techniques, console workflow, analog and digital multitrack recording formats, MIDI, modern audiovisual systems, Dante and surround sound.
  • Proficiency with audio software technologies such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Reason, Ableton Live, Nuendo, Finale, and various audio plug-ins and virtual instruments.
  • Experience using recording/mixing consoles, interfaces, and controllers.
  • Ability to function well under pressure and maintain stellar customer service.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize assignments, meet deadlines, and work on multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Experience with Mac and Windows operating systems and software testing.

  • Familiarity with video creation and editing, and/or screen capture software.
  • Experience with Workday, Colleague, Informer, and Google Data Studio.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervision of on-shift Studio and Suite Assistants.

Work Environment

This is a coverage and vacation relief position. Shifts are scheduled overnight and on weekends. Ability to carry 70 lbs.
