About the Role

As a Per Diem Residential Counselor, you will observe and assist 3-8 consumers in a residential setting, providing ongoing counseling for mental health services. Residential group home counselors are considered essential personnel and must comply with work schedules, including during states of emergency.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site services and support to consumers.
  • Communicate observations and information about consumers to the program specialist and team.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in AMHR, WRAP, and IMR.
  • Supervise, organize, and support recreational and/or socialization activities.
  • Provide transportation for residents.
  • Deliver resident counseling and crisis intervention services, including contacting police, outreach, and ambulance services as needed.
  • Participate in the development of the brief visit process, treatment service plan, discharge plan, or any other behavioral modification plan.
  • Coordinate activities such as medical, mental health, and community services.
  • Document observations, information, and services provided in daily shift notes, weekly progress notes, or other emergent documentation.
  • Supervise medication self-administration by consumers and maintain a working knowledge of medications and side effects.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with specialists regarding consumers and exhibited behaviors.

Requirements

  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Maintain required CPR, Handle With Care, and first aid certifications.

Qualifications

  • BA in a health-related field, or
  • Associate’s degree and 2 years of related work or life experience, or
  • LPN and 2 years of related work or life experience, or
  • High School Diploma and 4 years of work or life experience.
  • Valid NJ driver’s license.

Pay

Starting rate: $17.50 per hour, plus shift differentials.

  • $3.00 evening shift differential for Monday through Friday.
  • $5.00 weekend shift differential for Saturday and Sunday.

Schedule

Per diem (as needed) shifts in group homes throughout Ocean County.
