Per Diem Interventional Radiology Technologist - Electrophysiology Lab

Employment Type: Part time – Day Shift (no nights, no weekends)

About the role

Under the general supervision of the EP Cardiologist, the Electrophysiology Radiology Technologist provides technical support and assistance to the physician during Electrophysiology procedures. The EP RT performs surgical scrub duties, hemodynamic monitoring, stimulation, and circulating with all Electrophysiology procedures using clinical knowledge, technical skills, and professional judgement in accordance with professional and departmental standards and protocols.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or certificate in Radiologic Technology
• Certification as a Radiologic Technologist (RT) or Radiology Technician (RTT) required
• Additional Certification in Interventional or Cardiac Radiology (CIIP) preferred
• New York State Department of Health License with intravascular contrast injection 89.4 (can add injection license upon hire)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS provided upon hiring
• Participates in orientation, continuing education, and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise

Responsibilities

• Pre-procedure Preparation:
  • Prepare the Electrophysiology suite and equipment for procedures
  • Verify patient identification, medical history, and procedure details
  • Assist in positioning patients comfortably and securely on the procedure table
  • Provide patient education regarding the procedure and address any concerns
  • Maintain radiation safety and infection control protocols
• Equipment Operation:
  • Operate fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and other imaging equipment to visualize internal structures during procedures
  • Adjust imaging parameters to optimize image quality while minimizing radiation exposure
  • Ensure the functionality and cleanliness of equipment before and after each procedure
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and escalate issues as necessary
• Assistance During Procedures:
  • Assist radiologists and physicians in performing interventional procedures by scrubbing procedures and performing post-imaging manipulation of images
  • Hand off sterile equipment and supplies to the procedural team as needed
  • Assist with monitoring patient vital signs and comfort level throughout the procedure
  • Utilize sterile or aseptic technique to scrub in and assist physicians with procedures per protocol
  • Insertion and removal of venous and arterial access devices
  • Manually inject contrast agent
  • Monitor and manage cardiovascular hemodynamics
  • Operate ancillary equipment adherent to specific procedures
  • Operate the cardiac stimulator proficiently and independently for ablation procedures
  • Circulate within procedure room and procure equipment required for any given procedure
• Post-procedure Care:
  • Transfer patients safely to recovery areas and provide post-procedure care as directed
  • Monitor patients for any signs of complications and report findings to the healthcare team
  • Document procedure details, patient responses, and any adverse events accurately in medical records
• Collaboration and Communication:
  • Communicate effectively with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other team members to ensure smooth workflow and patient safety
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to discuss patient cases and treatment plans
  • Establish effective working relationships and utilize a team approach to process improvement
  • Learn new technical information and skills through attendance of periodic in-service programs and participation in professional affiliation sessions
  • Adhere to hospital confidentiality statement
  • Utilize Material Safety Data Sheets within service
  • Adhere to established hospital policy and procedures related to job function

Work Environment

• Clinical setting (Exposure Class I)
• Medium work: standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling
• Work contact group includes all services, employees, medical staff, patients, visitors, vendors, and various regulatory and professional agencies

Pay

Pay Range: $39.45–$59.20 per hour, based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
