About the role
The Mental Health Association is seeking Per Diem Mobile Crisis Outreach Responders for their new 988 Mobile Crisis Outreach Team, operating in Essex County. This program responds to adults (18 and above) in non-life-threatening situations who have contacted the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
Responsibilities
- Provide evidenced-based crisis services to individuals experiencing a mental health or substance use disorder crisis in the community.
- Connect with the Master’s Level Supervisor remotely for additional psychological, psychiatric, or clinical services when necessary.
- Support individuals in de-escalating crises and, when appropriate, provide transportation to crisis stabilization centers, community behavioral health clinics, or hospital emergency departments for treatment.
- Develop systems for ongoing follow-up with community members to enhance prevention and early intervention.
- Complete follow-up with identified clients and collateral contacts as needed.
- Collaborate with family members, friends, or loved ones to support individuals in crisis.
- Record keeping, reports, and documentation in accordance with program requirements.
- Attend regularly scheduled meetings including supervision, agency meetings, and training sessions as assigned.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a mental health-related field from an accredited institution with two years of post-bachelor’s professional experience required. Three years of full-time equivalent professional experience in the mental health field if the bachelor’s degree is in a different field.
- The ability to provide effective crisis response and de-escalation in community mental health settings.
- A valid NJ driver’s license and a good driving record.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with community providers and the 988 managing entity.
- Experience in a crisis setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of Essex County resources is helpful.

Base hourly rate: $26.44
Schedule
Shifts are on an as-needed basis, specifically seeking holiday and weekend coverage.
