Peer Support/Recovery Coach, Per Diem, Variable Shifts, Retreat Residential

About the role

We are seeking a Peer Support Specialist/Recovery Coach to join our team at Pine Rest. This role is part of a tight-knit team that believes in the healing power of expertise and compassion. The ideal candidate possesses a unique perspective to treatment due to their own experience with mental illness and/or substance abuse.

Responsibilities

• Use experiences with personal recovery to offer hope, encouragement and reassurance to the people served within the program.
• Participate as assigned in clinical and staff meetings.
• Participate in the person centered planning process as requested by persons served.
• Work with program leadership to implement programmatic changes by utilizing evidence-based practices to improve the quality of our services and outcomes.
• Aid the people we serve to become active participants in their treatment and encourage self-advocacy while in the program.
• Encourage those served to take personal responsibility for their own recovery and wellness.
• Document interactions in the electronic medical record and coordinate with other treatment team members as necessary.
• In individual and/or group settings, provide services aimed at promoting independence, community inclusion and productivity. Services offered may include but are not limited to: Assistance in applying for benefits, assistance in finding and maintaining housing, budgeting skills, maintaining a mentoring program, Wellness Recovery Action Plan care coordination and medical advocacy and follow up after psychiatric hospitalizations and/or detox/residential admissions.
• Schedule and lead group programming.
• Complete the appropriate group paperwork required within the program.
• Provide formal and impromptu training for direct care staff and other team members to assist the team in utilizing a recovery-oriented approach.
• Learn and help to accomplish patients’ treatment plans and goals.
• Support and promote a recovery-focused environment and person-centered approach within the program.

Requirements

• Must possess, at a minimum, a High School Diploma or GED, 6 months post-high school education in behavioral sciences may be preferred.
• Life experience that allows individuals to identify self as peer and/or coach.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate in both written and verbal format to meet position responsibilities.
• Current certification as a Certified Peer Support Specialist and/or Recovery Coach or ability to obtain Michigan Peer Support Specialist Certification once hired may be required.
• Some programs may require the candidate to have been served by the public mental health system.
• May be required to have been diagnosed with a Mental Illness or Substance Abuse.
• May be required to have been served by the Public Mental Health System.

Pay

The equivalent base pay range for this position is $16.34 - $22.88. Your interview and offer letter will specify whether the role is hourly or salaried. Please note that this range does not include potential shift differentials, incentives, or bonuses, which may be part of the total compensation package. Final base pay will be determined based on location, experience, education, certifications, and FTE status.
