Peer Recovery Support Specialist-Crisis Stabilization

About the Role

The Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) provides peer support services to clients in recovery, including duties typical of a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) and facilitating support groups. The PRSS works collaboratively with clients and staff to ensure the provision of recovery-oriented services and support.

Responsibilities

• Provides crisis assistance as needed.
• Assists consumers in maintaining eligibility for applicable programs and conducting required evaluations within timelines specific to program regulations.
• Advocates for and assists consumers in obtaining needed services through referrals to other programs.
• Conducts process groups, educational, chemical dependency, and other groups as assigned daily.
• Assists clients and staff during admissions and discharges.
• Demonstrates knowledge of chemical dependency/addictions as well as mental health and utilizes knowledge and skills to access and meet client treatment needs.
• Complies with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Maintains confidentiality of all consumer information and complies with HIPAA regulations.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and supports Westbrook Health Services' mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

• Must have lived experience of recovery from substance use or mental health conditions and be willing to share personal experiences to support others.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work well in a team environment and interact with a diverse group of people.
• Ability to engage clients in meaningful group discussions.
• Understanding of electronic charting systems and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work in an environment with constant exposure to clients.
• Must have PRSS Certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Peer Support Specialist certification.
• Two or more years of experience in the field of substance use or mental health recovery is preferred.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Mobility and ability to sit for long periods of time using a standard computer keyboard, bend, reach, and lift up to 10 pounds are required in this position.
