About the Role

Join the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board as a part-time Peer Recovery Specialist I in Hampton, VA. In this onsite role, you will provide peer support and recovery services to individuals living with mental health and/or substance use challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support and recovery-focused services to individuals receiving behavioral health treatment at our Crisis Stabilization and 23hr program.
  • Advocate for individuals and assist them in developing wellness and recovery goals.
  • Work closely with the treatment team in both individual and group settings.
  • Use your lived experience to support and encourage recovery.
  • Help individuals utilize recovery tools such as Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP) and other recovery planning resources to promote stability, independence, and personal growth.

Qualifications

  • Must be an individual with personal lived experience of a mental health and/or substance use condition, with at least 12 months of successful recovery, including demonstrated progress in managing symptoms and building a meaningful life in recovery.
  • Valid state driver's license required.
  • Must complete the DBHDS 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist Training within 6 months of hire.

Pay & Schedule

  • Hourly Rate: $16.15/hr
  • Shift Differential: $2.50/hr (evening, overnight, and weekend shifts)
  • Work Schedule: 10:00 am - 6:30 pm, Friday and Saturday
