Peer Mentor

About the role

This position is only available to enrolled FCC Students. The Peer Mentor meets regularly with members of the Student Success Programs cohort programs to provide a peer perspective and make connections to campus resources. The Peer Mentor has the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Responsibilities

• Meet regularly with members of cohort programs within Student Success Programs to provide a peer perspective and provide connection to campus resources.
• Assist with special projects as required (e.g., prepare materials for distribution, create spreadsheets, event set-up, etc.).
• Provide coverage for the front desk, including answering phones, transferring calls, taking messages, and sending emails on behalf of the Office of Student Success Programs.
• Provide a professional, helpful, welcoming atmosphere for faculty, staff, students, families, callers, and visitors of the Office of Student Success Programs.
• Assist students/visitors by providing general information.
• Assist with communications for new students and their families via email, phone, and other modes.
• Conduct outreach to prospective cohort program members.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Be a currently enrolled FCC student currently or formerly involved in a cohort program within Student Success Programs.
• Ability to interact professionally with other students, faculty, staff, and community members using various modalities: face-to-face, email, and the phone.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
• Ability to multitask and capable of managing multiple priorities.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Desired Qualifications

• Knowledge of campus resources and campus processes.
• Working knowledge of the structure and functions of Student Success Programs.
