Peer Engagement Specialist - Mobile Crisis Response - CRSS

About the role

Thresholds’ Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) provides services and supports to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis, serving the Uptown, Lakeview, and North Center communities. As a Peer Engagement Specialist, you will respond to mental health crises, act as an alternative to hospitalization or police response, and provide least restrictive interventions.

Responsibilities

• Answer calls to the crisis hotline and conduct a safety assessment
• Connect callers to appropriate services or providers, or provide face-to-face intervention
• Assist the person in crisis with the least restrictive intervention possible
• Offer follow-up to clients after responding to a crisis
• Document services provided during each shift
• Participate in professional development through self-directed projects and community outreach

Requirements

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time and occasionally traverse long distances and ascend/descend multiple flights of stairs
• Must have a valid driver’s license (preferred)
• Must be at least 23 years old
• Must be willing to obtain CRSS (Certified Recovery Support Specialist) within 1 year of hire
• Must be available to work assigned schedule: Friday - Tuesday 2:45pm - 11:15pm

• Lived and living experience with personal mental health recovery
• Passion for mental health advocacy
• Effective communication and relationship-building skills
• Ability to problem-solve
• Strong writing skills
• Good time management and organization

Skills

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to build rapport with individuals in crisis
• Experience working with diverse populations
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care and harm reduction
