About the role

The Peer Counselor, Breastfeeding position for the WIC program at Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children supports the care of pregnant and breastfeeding mothers within the WIC program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to the assigned pregnant and/or breastfeeding mother population.
  • Offer support and guidance on breastfeeding techniques and challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with WIC program policies and procedures.
  • Participate in regular training sessions to maintain competency in breastfeeding support.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one previous breastfeeding experience.
  • Must complete breastfeeding training classes within three months of hire.

Qualifications

  • No prior experience in nutrition, lactation, or other health-related fields required.
  • Six months of breastfeeding experience preferred.
  • Current or past WIC participant.

Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of breastfeeding techniques and support strategies.

Rate of pay for selected candidates will be determined by various factors including knowledge, skills, abilities, relevant experience and training, as well as internal peer equity.
