Chief Purpose of this Position

The chief purpose of this position is to provide and advance the patient care, research, and teaching missions through direct pediatric patient care in the clinic and the training of residents, medical students, and other trainees. Provides pediatric outpatient and inpatient consult rehabilitation services. Clinical Duties & Responsibilities:

• Primary clinical responsibility is pediatric rehabilitation, including electrodiagnosis and interventional care as appropriate
• Supports established multi-specialty clinics in muscular dystrophy, spinal bifida, spasticity, cerebral palsy and concussion/TBI
• Responsible for the proper management and quality of service in the provision of care
• Provides consults upon referral from medical facilities with formal, coordinated relationships with the department
• Prepares periodic reports pertaining to the care of patients to the Division Chair
• Ensures that medical services are documented and signed in accordance with VCUHS and payer policies and guidelines
• Affords assistance in the establishment of referral sources for the CHoR Pavilion and VCU Medical Center
• Affords assistance in the preparation of appropriate charges for the medical services rendered and in the review of non-reimbursed billings
• Taught in the supervision of residents, fellows, and other learners in the environment
• Assists in the establishment of the core curriculum including a list of reading material for house staff and students
• Assists in the evaluation of house staff and students assigned to the facilities after each rotation
• Participates in research activities as needed/interested in the context of clinical care
• Serves as a resource for ongoing and new projects as appropriate in the context of clinical care

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Medical Degree (MD or DO)
• Must have good academic and clinical credentials, demonstrated ability to establish new clinical initiatives, effective oral and written communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to work well with people in a team environment is essential
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications

• Board Eligible or Board Certified in Pediatric Rehabilitation
