Pediatric Physician Assistant - Emergency Medicine and Urgent Care

Position Summary

Phoenix Children's opened as a free-standing hospital in 2002 and has since grown significantly. The Emergency Department (ED) at the main campus sees over 90,000 children annually and is the only free-standing Level I pediatric trauma center in the state. Located in Maricopa County, Phoenix is one of the fastest-growing counties in the U.S. Phoenix Children's continues to expand its division, facilities, and training programs, including fellowships in both Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Pediatric Urgent Care.

Position Duties

• Conducts comprehensive health history, physical assessments, and plans for infants, children, and young adults with acute and chronic health conditions using advanced assessment skills.
• Orders and prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, and performs other therapeutic or corrective measures to treat illness and improve health status.
• Formulates family-centered plan of care and performs daily documentation as necessary, collaborating and coordinating care with other team members.
• Collects and analyzes data as needed.
• Performs advanced procedures associated with their credentialing process as determined by their DOP.
• Utilizes the most up-to-date and evidence-based practices for the plan of care and is able to adapt the plan according to family needs and effectiveness of the plan.
• Serves as an educational resource to patients, families, nursing staff, provider teams, and other healthcare teams as needed.
• Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, certifying body renewals, seeking educational offerings when available, and participating in the professional development of others, such as Advanced Practice Provider students, Residents, and Medical Students. Acts as a preceptor/mentor for those new in the department.
• Demonstrates commitment to patient safety by bringing up concerns appropriately, reporting through appropriate channels, and ensuring changes in practice when necessary. Demonstrates shared accountability for safe practice.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as requested.
