Responsibilities
- Assess, evaluate, diagnose and treat well newborns and pediatric observation patients and inpatients on the pediatric inpatient unit, as well as provide consultative services in the Emergency Department.
- Work collaboratively with Primary Care Providers to ensure safe patient handoffs.
- Performs and/or orders clinically appropriate procedures for each patient.
- Analyzes medical histories, diagnostic lab test and x-ray results, clinical examinations and performs physical examinations in formulating a diagnosis, plan of care and documents in conformity with applicable professional standards, third party payer requirements and the Division’s policies and procedures.
- Prescribes clinically appropriate medication and treatment for each patient.
- Refers each patient to other physicians, including specialists and other health care providers, whenever the patient's condition as necessary.
- Keeps and maintains accurate, complete, appropriate, timely and legible medical records relating to all professional services provided.
- Uses and promotes evidence-based clinical practice.
- Reviews on a regular basis long term cases that require ongoing medical attention.
- Consults with Medical Director and other medical professionals as needed regarding patient care, assessment, and education issues.
- Participates in quality improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs established by the hospital.
- Participates in teaching and learning in an integrated academic model.
- Practice preventive health care through patient and family education and child health advocacy.
- Participates in peer review, development and consultation.
- Participates in special programs and services as assigned.
- Academic/scholarly work and division citizenship as per division chief.
- Provides appropriate documentation that meets insurance company requirements; appeal all denials in a timely manner.
- Affords assistance in the resolution of complaints, requests and inquiries from patients.
Qualifications
- Education Required: MD, DO degree.
- Experience Required: 2 (two) years of Experience in a Pediatric Hospitalist setting preferred.
- Licenses and/or Certifications Required: Board eligible or certified in Pediatrics and/or Pediatric Hospital Medicine; Licensed and registered, and in good standing under the laws of the State of Connecticut and New York; Active and Unrestricted D.E.A. Certificate; PALS, NRP Certifications Required; ACLS, BLS Preferred.
