Pediatric Emergency Medicine Physician - Part Time - Hartford, CT

About the role

Accountable for delivering comprehensive, high-quality patient care—including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions—according to standards of practice for children from birth through adolescence. Functions as a member of an Emergency Department physician team within an integrated academic model, with the potential for a clinical academic position.

Responsibilities

• Assess, evaluate, diagnose, and initially treat pediatric patients who present in the ED with any symptom, illness, injury, or condition.
• Provide services necessary to ameliorate minor illnesses or injuries, stabilize patients with major illnesses or injuries, and determine if additional care is required.
• Analyze medical histories, diagnostic lab test and x-ray results, and perform physical examinations.
• Coordinate patient care with team members, other departments, and community agencies and providers as necessary.
• Participate in teaching and learning within an integrated academic model.
• Practice preventive health care through patient and family education and child health advocacy.
• Participate in peer review, development, and consultation.
• Engage in special programs and services as assigned.
• Demonstrate knowledge of age-related differences and needs of patients from neonate through adolescence and apply them to practice.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients and families.
• Demonstrate support for the mission, values, and goals of the organization through behaviors consistent with Connecticut Children’s STANDARDS.
• Contribute to academic/scholarly work and division citizenship as directed by the division chief.

Supervisory Responsibilities: No direct reports, but oversees Fellows, Residents, Medical Students, and Advanced Practice Providers (APRNs & PAs).

Requirements

• MD, MD/PhD, DO degree or equivalent with attainment of Pediatric Emergency Medicine board eligibility/certification.
• Previous pediatric emergency department experience required.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
• Licensed and registered, and in good standing under the laws of the State of Connecticut.
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Current Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification.
• Current Federal DEA Controlled Substance Registration.
• Current State of Connecticut Controlled Substance Registration.
