PBIS Coach Tier II

About the Role

This position supports school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) systems at all three tiers, with a focus on Tier II interventions and coordination within the building.

Responsibilities

  • Review Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI) to create an action plan.
  • Formulate a Secondary Systems Team and communicate Tier 2 implementation status to staff.
  • Meet at least once a month to:
    • Review student data to determine eligibility for Tier 2 interventions (e.g., Check in/Check out (CICO), Social Academic Instructional Groups (SAIG), or Mentoring).
    • Monitor progress and track Tier 2 interventions (CICO, SAIG, Mentoring, etc.).
    • Input and review CICO data (Google Sheet).
    • Complete the Tier 2 Tracking Tool.
  • Serve as the building point person and resource for DESSA or similar screening/progress monitoring tools, coordinating with the Social Worker or Psychologist (Elementary and Middle School).
  • Track students needing DESSA screening and communicate with the district office for data uploads.
  • Review SEL concerns at building data review meetings to discuss Tier 2 intervention needs.
  • Review student data to identify those needing more intense interventions.
  • Communicate updates to staff on Tier 2 intervention status, celebrations, and reminders.
  • Attend monthly district PBIS coaches meetings.
  • Document Tier 2 interventions for each student at the end of the school year under the RtI Behavior Tab.
  • Collaborate with Tier 1 and Tier 3 coaches to complete the TFI, Phases of Implementation, and create an Action Plan.

Building PBIS Team Functions

  • Coordinate school assemblies (beginning-of-year kick-off, post-winter break booster, end-of-year celebration).
  • Arrange for PBIS assemblies and speakers.
  • Develop a building-wide universal incentive program to reinforce positive behavior.
  • Create PBIS celebrations for various tiers (monthly, quarterly, end of year).
  • Build out the PBIS Haiku page with all necessary information.
  • Develop a behavior matrix with expectations for various settings (classroom, hallways, bathroom, gym, cafeteria, playground, etc.).
  • Create a building PBIS slogan.
  • Develop Cool Tool lessons.
  • List building meeting dates, times, and notes for meetings.
  • Provide PBIS newsletter information (monthly).
  • Post the Behavior Matrix and expectations specific to different locations in and around the building.
  • Review and analyze school-wide data to identify behavior problem areas (PBIS Tableau Behavior Reports).
  • Create Cool Tool lessons and supplemental lessons to teach behavior expectations and reinforce positive behavior.
  • Disseminate information to grade-level teams as applicable.
  • Develop building-specific Decision Rules for Tier 2 interventions, including:
    • Criteria for CICO and entry to SAIG interventions.
    • Exit criteria from CICO and SAIG.
    • Student entrance data (e.g., DESSA rating, attendance, Office Discipline Referrals (ODRs), teacher perception, grades).
  • Intensify student interventions if they are not responding to Tier 2 or present significant behavioral needs at the Tier 3 level.
  • Complete the Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI) as a team and submit it to the PBIS Apps website by April 15th.
  • Apply for PBIS Recognition through the PBIS Midwest Network website by April 15th.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge and understanding of essential features of school-wide PBIS systems at all three tiers.
  • Awareness of and familiarity with the building school improvement process as it relates to developing the whole child.
  • Ability to attend monthly district PBIS meetings and PBIS Midwest network coaching meetings (building approval required; sub authorized through RTI if needed).
  • Promotes shared decision-making and facilitates team meetings.
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively and effectively in groups and with administrators/decision-makers.
  • Works in the building full-time.
