Payroll Tax Analyst
About the role
Dayforce is seeking a Payroll Tax Analyst to join our Managed Services team. This role supports clients with payroll tax compliance, accurate payroll tax submissions, and year-end balancing activities. The Payroll Tax Analyst serves as the primary point of contact for client tax inquiries related to employee-level payroll and tax filing while partnering with internal teams to ensure compliance, resolve issues, and deliver exceptional customer service.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary customer contact for Managed Tax inquiries and coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely resolution.
- Support all aspects of payroll and tax compliance by researching and interpreting federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
- Audit and balance quarter-end payroll tax activity by researching and resolving discrepancies.
- Prepare and submit payroll tax amendment requests, including determining refund or payment requirements.
- Support new customer implementations by participating in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and implementation activities to ensure payroll tax compliance and client readiness.
- Balance year-end payroll tax activities by assessing the impact of tax law changes on employee payroll processing and communicating updates to internal partners and clients.
- Document and maintain payroll tax processes, including quarterly documentation reviews.
- Develop, document, and maintain payroll tax processes, including ownership of quarterly documentation reviews.
- Perform special payroll tax and compliance transactions, including multi-state wage and tax reallocations.
- Provide Dayforce Tax Services with third-party sick pay wage and tax totals.
- Complete W-2C submissions and provide second-quarter recaps of W-2C activity and amendment requests.
- Participate in year-end planning meetings and serve as a payroll tax subject matter expert.
Requirements
- 3+ years of payroll tax, payroll administration, or human resources/payroll experience; 5+ years preferred.
- Experience working in high-volume, multi-state payroll environments.
- Experience with wage and tax balancing and federal, state, and local payroll taxes is preferred.
- High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Business, Tax, Human Resources, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Strong customer service orientation and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze, and resolve moderately complex payroll issues.
- Experience applying payroll auditing techniques and principles.
- Strong understanding of payroll tax compliance and associated regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of payroll tax research methods and issue resolution.
- Understanding of employee state and local taxation requirements.
Skills
- Experience supporting payroll tax compliance within a managed services or outsourcing environment.
- Experience working with Dayforce Payroll or similar cloud-based payroll solutions.
- Experience working with multi-state payroll taxation and year-end processing.
- Experience supporting payroll tax activities during system implementations.
- Payroll or tax-related certifications.
