Payroll Supervisor/Manager/Director

Responsibilities

  • Direct end-to-end payroll activities for more than 12,000 employees, ensuring each pay cycle is completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Manage payroll processing across multiple states while applying federal, state, and local wage and tax requirements.
  • Oversee bi-monthly payroll execution, including review, validation, reconciliation, and final approval of payroll data.
  • Maintain payroll records and controls that support compliance, audit readiness, and reporting accuracy.
  • Partner with HR, finance, and other internal teams to resolve payroll discrepancies, support employee changes, and improve data quality.
  • Monitor payroll systems and workflows, identifying opportunities to strengthen efficiency, consistency, and service delivery.
  • Provide guidance and leadership on payroll-related policies, escalations, and complex employee pay matters.
  • Support payroll technology updates or process changes, including system-related enhancements when needed.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of payroll experience, including leadership responsibility in a high-volume environment.
  • Demonstrated success managing full-cycle payroll from data review through final distribution and reconciliation.
  • Strong working knowledge of multi-state payroll regulations, tax withholding, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience administering bi-monthly payroll for an employee population of 500 or more.
  • Hands-on proficiency with Workday and the ability to use payroll systems effectively for processing and reporting.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to handle confidential information accurately and professionally.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A bachelor's degree in business, accounting, human resources, or a related field.
  • CPA certification preferred.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
