About the role

This position assists and executes end-to-end payroll processing for Ford Field Management & Detroit Lions staff. The role involves working with all departments within the organization, addressing payroll-related questions and requests from employees and managers. The ideal candidate is well-organized, maintains a high level of confidentiality, and can work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Field all staff payroll requests and inquiries from employees
  • Review the time management system for approvals, accuracy, and completeness
  • Responsible for the review of timely tax filings
  • Initiate, monitor, and record bank impound
  • Transmit 401-K deductions to provider and perform per-pay tie-outs
  • Set up and process garnishment calculations
  • Submit payroll deductions to appropriate authorities
  • Assist the People Team with updating payroll records for changes in tax status, address, direct deposit, etc.
  • Review and reconcile payroll
  • Oversee the creation of the payroll calendars
  • Responsible for cash flow projections for staff payroll
  • Review quarterly tax filings to ensure third-party vendor has filed correctly
  • Schedule and manage workers' compensation audit and assist with financial statement and 401k audits
  • Work with accounting to reconcile payroll accounts in the general ledger on a periodic basis
  • Responsible for monitoring pay codes and assist accounting with ledger accounts for staff payroll
  • Support Payroll Manager and SVP of Finance for other entities and projects
  • Help create and document best practices and procedures checklists for effective and efficient processing controls
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential
  • Complete employment verification requests for players and practice squad players
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience required
  • Experience with Dayforce strongly preferred
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent combination of education and work experience required
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll practices and procedures
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficient in MS Office (including Excel)
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours, including weekends, holidays, and during office closures
  • Ability to travel between Ford Field and the Meijer Performance Center
  • A valid driver’s license and a good driving record
