Payroll Processing Specialist (On Site) (Kill Devil Hills)

Key Responsibilities
- Accurately process payroll for employees, including review of time sheets, calculations of wages, deductions for taxes, insurance, housing, AR, and reporting of benefits, in a fast paced, seasonal business, with varying pay types, significant seasonal fluctuations.
- Ensure timely and accurate issuance of paychecks or direct deposits.
- Maintain and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and changes in employment status.
- Verify and reconcile payroll data to ensure accuracy.
- Aid HR in ensuring payroll practices comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including tax laws and wage and hour laws.
- Stay current with changes in labor laws and regulations, and assist with implementation of necessary changes to payroll practices.
- Review payroll-related reports and tax filings as required by government agencies, prepared by UKG Payroll Tax Services.
- Conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
- Support in the administration of employee benefits programs, including enrollment, changes, and terminations.
- Aid in onboarding, orientation, and the preparation and maintenance of employee records and documentation.
- Be the first point of contact for employee inquiries related to payroll and benefits issues.
- Cook up with other departments to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll-related transactions, and annual ACA reporting.
- Maintain and update HRIS software systems, ensuring accuracy and efficiency, in conjunction with others.
- Troubleshoot and work to resolve any system issues or discrepancies.
- Generate and analyze payroll reports for management review.
- Assist with special projects related to payroll and benefits as needed.
- Participate in training and development programs to stay informed about best practices and changes in regulations.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in payroll processing and compliance, preferably in a similar role.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of payroll regulations and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency with payroll software (knowledge of UKG a plus) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, with SharePoint a plus).
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Payroll certification (e.g., Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)) is a plus.
- Office environment with standard working hours, including some overtime.
