Payroll Manager
About the role
This position will oversee the organization's payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. The Payroll Manager will serve as the subject matter expert and escalation point to resolve payroll issues, and continuously improve processes and implement new initiatives as needed. This role requires strategic partnerships with internal/external customers and strong customer service skills.
Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day operations of Workday payroll, time tracking, absence, and all related functions for multi-state bi-weekly US payroll companies.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for payroll and all payroll-related projects.
- Act as escalation point to resolve payroll issues.
- Process standard and complex payroll transactions including retro calculations, manual adjustments, error resolution, and root cause analysis.
- Maintain payroll records and data for the calculation of payroll for multiple pay groups.
- Partner with HR and Benefits personnel to ensure employee data, compensation, and benefit deductions are correct and promptly funded.
- Partner with Corporate Tax and other Accounting team members to reconcile Workday payroll records to appropriate company-made payments during month-end close.
- Provide funding amounts to Treasury prior to bank draw.
- Ensure the accuracy of the account posting rules for all on/off-cycle payments.
- Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
- Input and manage garnishment information for employees in Workday once received by the appropriate state agency.
- Identify and recommend updates to payroll processes, service levels with third-parties, systems, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Partner with HR on the employee worker's compensation process, in conjunction with the insurance broker.
- Ensure alignment between employer pay and worker's compensation.
- Complete necessary forms related to initiating claims and provide required wage statements.
- Work with Insurance & Risk to provide requested payroll information for insurance renewals and audits.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience within Payroll.
- Workday Payroll experience is highly preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
- Knowledge of payroll regulations, laws, and processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel).
- Strong analytical skills with a focus on process improvement and knowledge transfer.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage well through ambiguity and complexity.

- Meticulous with the ability to multi-task and attention to accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Schedule
Full-time position: Monday – Thursday (9 hours) & Friday (4 hours).
