Role + Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor payroll staff, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback
  • Oversee weekly and/or bi-weekly payroll processing for employees in two states, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Serve as backup for payroll functions and ensure effective cross-training for ongoing coverage
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, including tax filings and wage reporting
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure accurate employee data and benefit deductions
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies and respond to employee inquiries in a timely and professional manner
  • Work with the Controller to implement, maintain, and update payroll policies and procedures to reflect regulatory changes and best practices
  • Cook with external vendors for payroll software, tax filings, and year-end reporting (e.g., W-2s)
  • Partner with the Controller on process improvement initiatives to optimize payroll efficiency and accuracy
  • Through collaboration with supervisors, address and rectify inefficient practices
  • Hold the line and stand firm in enforcing payroll policies, providing support and data to help supervisors hold their teams accountable as needed

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading, supervising, mentoring, or developing employees
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with employees, managers, and external stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills, including the ability to interpret regulations, investigate issues, and implement practical solutions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other business software applications
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced environment
