About the role

The Payroll Clerk is responsible for accurate and timely entry of payroll information, maintaining payroll records, administering payroll-related systems and deductions, and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and District policies. This position regularly interacts with internal and external customers and requires excellent communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Enter, verify, and process payroll data accurately and on schedule, including collection and review of time sheet data, input and verification of new hire and termination information, payroll data analysis, data entry/import, balancing, and production of payroll documents
  • Maintain complete and accurate payroll records, including those related to new hires, terminations, unpaid leaves of absence, employee returns from leave, and other payroll-related changes
  • Administer payroll-related systems, deductions, and adjustments, ensuring accuracy in accordance with supporting documentation, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable regulations, and prepare and remit payments to vendors and taxing authorities
  • Review payroll information for accuracy and resolve discrepancies
  • Prepare, reconcile, and submit all required annual payroll tax reports, including Forms W-2 and other filings as required by law and/or District policy
  • Ensure payroll processes comply with applicable laws, regulations, and District policies
  • Respond to payroll-related questions from employees, departments, and external contacts while providing professional and courteous customer service
  • Protect the confidentiality of payroll and employee information
  • Complete payroll-related surveys and employment verifications
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller and/or Chief Financial Officer

Requirements

  • Associates degree in business or accounting; payroll certification is a plus
  • Minimum 2–3 years of payroll processing experience, preference for experience with 500 or more employees

Skills

  • Proficient with MS Windows and Office (including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), Google Suite, and other software programs and the Internet
  • Ability to learn and adapt to other customized software packages
  • Experience with enterprise solution software
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Adobe
  • Eye for detail and outstanding problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and excellent customer service skills

Schedule

8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, 7.5 hours/day, 12 months (260–262 days per year)

Pay

Starting hourly rate: $26.55/hour
