About the role
Lone Star’s Payroll & Benefits Coordinator position includes back-office support functions such as payroll calculation, processing, and benefit reconciliation. This role works under the supervision of the Finance Director while handling specialized administrative duties across both finance and Human Resources departments.
Responsibilities
- Accurate preparation, documentation, and distribution of payroll via the organization’s payroll system
- Review the computation of pay and ensure company payroll policies comply with government regulations
- Communicate with process stakeholders, including employees, responding to and resolving all inquiries regarding paychecks
- Assist in annual employee benefit enrollment and life event changes
- Create on-demand HRIS reports for various stakeholders
- Input, review, and process pay data and employee changes in Time/Attendance, Payroll, and HRIS
- Review time sheets, wage computation, and other information to detect and reconcile payroll discrepancies
- Prepare and process U.S. payrolls using dedicated software; review international payrolls
- Reconcile payroll deposits, tax withholdings, wage garnishments, and voluntary deductions
- Transmit employer 401(k) match information via Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)
- Respond to external audits for 401(k) and Worker’s Compensation, ensuring accurate documentation and timely communication
- Audit and reconcile health insurance invoices against employee elections
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations
- Maintain and update the system for employee stock options and notifications
- Assist in managing and reporting all aspects related to payroll and benefits
- Support continuous improvement of payroll procedures and policies to promote efficiency and compliance
- Ability to lift at least 20 pounds and support the physical activity of back-office support
Requirements
- 1-2 years of payroll processing experience
- Minimum Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, or other relevant discipline
- Impeccable written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent planning and organization skills
- Ability to work well under time constraints
Skills
- Highly organized, technically skilled with Microsoft Office suite and related tools
- Effective time management skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work creatively while accepting input from others
- Capable of operating independently or as a team player
- Ability to track multiple projects and timelines with multifaceted priorities
- Use of iSolved payroll platform is highly desirable
- Familiarity with HRIS implementation is a significant advantage
- Prior exposure to payroll operations in the UK or Norway
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to understand and compile data for reporting
