About the Opportunity
The Payroll Assistant supports day-to-day payroll operations through data entry, recordkeeping, administrative support, and payroll preparation. This entry-level position helps maintain accurate payroll information, meet processing deadlines, and support clients under the guidance of experienced payroll professionals.
Responsibilities
- Assist with preparing client payrolls on weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, and monthly schedules
- Collect and organize employee hours, payroll changes, reimbursements, bonuses, commissions, and related information
- Enter payroll and employee data into payroll systems according to established procedures
- Review timesheets and payroll documentation for completeness, accuracy, and consistency
- Maintain organized digital payroll files and supporting documentation
- Enter new hires, terminations, direct deposit information, deductions, and other payroll changes
- Manage payroll calendars, checklists, and processing deadlines
- Prepare payroll reports and supporting documentation
- Assist with basic payroll reconciliations and research payroll discrepancies
- Communicate with team members regarding missing or incomplete payroll information
- Support client payroll communications under the direction of senior team members
- Assist with quarterly and year-end payroll documentation and reporting
- Maintain strict confidentiality of employee, client, payroll, tax, and financial information
- Follow established payroll procedures, checklists, and quality-control requirements
- Provide administrative support to payroll, bookkeeping, and accounting teams
- Perform additional payroll and administrative duties as assigned
Requirements

- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to follow established procedures and meet deadlines
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or willingness to develop proficiency
- Basic spreadsheet and data-entry skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills

- Willingness to learn payroll and accounting processes
- Ability to accept feedback and make corrections as needed
- Dependable and professional work habits
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining consistent communication
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous administrative, payroll, bookkeeping, accounting, or customer service experience
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and payroll or accounting software
- Basic understanding of payroll, bookkeeping, or accounting concepts
- Experience handling confidential employee or financial information
- Relevant coursework, training, or professional certification
Pay
Hourly pay range of $18.00–$22.00, based on experience.
