Position Information

The purpose of this position is to provide assistance and support to the Payroll Department with daily operations. This is accomplished by assisting employees with concerns and questions; engaging in written and oral communications; providing assistance to other departments regarding payroll issues; filing and maintaining payroll records; scanning and creating electronic records; assisting Payroll staff with various job duties. Other duties may include assisting with verifying, calculating, and inputting various payroll data; balancing and running actual payrolls; preparing and completing various reports, and assisting with other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Three (3) years of payroll experience.

Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook Use of scanner to create electronic records Knowledge of records retention

Preferred Qualifications: IRS forms Knowledge of Payroll Taxes Knowledge of Ellucian Colleague

Job Duties

  • Book or electronically file payroll adjustments, payroll reports, adjunct/overload sheets, and stipend documents;
  • File and/or create electronic payroll records for employee payroll files;
  • Create and maintain electronic payroll registers for records management/retention files.
  • Time stamp, separate, and distribute payroll documents to appropriate staff;
  • Assist in balancing, verifying, calculating actual payrolls;
  • Inputting payroll data and generating payroll reports;
  • Aid in entering employee information into Colleague.
  • Engage in written and/or oral communication with employees, department personnel, and outside vendors;
  • Answer payroll questions via telephone;
  • Direct walk-ins to appropriate area to answer questions and/or concerns;
  • Create documents, make copies, fax documents;
  • Respond to payroll e-mails;
  • Pick up and drop off department mail.
  • Aid Payroll staff with other department duties and deadlines. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
