About Union

Union exists to move hospitality forward so everyone wins: the operators who run the venues, the staff who bring them to life, the guests who fill them, and the brands that want to be part of it. We built the operating system that powers it all: a purpose-built POS platform for high-volume bars and restaurants, a consumer app that connects guests to the venues they love, and an advertising and data platform that puts brands in front of consumers at the exact moment they’re ready to spend. 1,500+ venues. $2B+ in annual transactions. Millions of consumers. And a network that gets more valuable the more it grows. We’re not just running hospitality operations. We’re redefining what the hospitality experience looks like for everyone in the room.

About the role

Union is building out a comprehensive payments ecosystem to support its network of agents and venues, and the project has outgrown the capacity of the current team. We’re looking for an experienced payments leader, either as a consultant or as a full-time hire, to help define the plan and then drive it across the organization. This will be a large, high-visibility initiative internally, touching nearly every part of how Union’s agents and venues interact with payments.

Payments at Union is currently run by a small team. Support staff are being trained up gradually to help absorb some of the workload, but that effort has been slow going given everything else in flight. This role is intended to bring the structure, planning, and hands-on execution needed to move the project forward at the pace it demands.

Engagement Options

  • Consulting. Come in to assess the current state, build out the plans, and help implement them across the organization, working closely with the existing payments team.
  • Manager of Payments (full-time). Join Union directly and own this initiative on an ongoing basis, building out the team and processes needed to run it long-term.

Responsibilities

  • Agent training – Train Union’s 1099 agents on payments processes and tools so they can sell and support with confidence.
  • Agent payouts – Own how agents get paid on the payments side of their book.
  • Agent-facing payments portal – Build and support the agent-facing views within the payments portal, covering onboarding and support.
  • Internal training – Train Union’s onboarding, underwriting, and pricing teams, and likely additional teams as the project develops.
  • Risk and underwriting – Own risk and underwriting for the payments program.
  • Support enablement – Handle support asks and build ongoing support enablement as the program scales.

This is effectively about designing and running an entire payments ecosystem within Union, not a single isolated project, and additional work-streams will come up as the project matures.

Requirements

  • Strong payments ecosystem experience, comfortable operating across both strategy and hands-on execution.
  • Experience designing underwriting and risk processes.
  • Experience training internal teams and driving organization-wide rollout.
  • Experience standing up payments operations from a relatively early stage.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with support, onboarding, and product teams.

Why Union

  • The payments ecosystem here is still being built, not inherited. Whoever takes this on shapes how it works.
  • Union is Austin-rooted, moving fast, and serious about hospitality.
