About the role

We are seeking a Payload Safety Panel Representative to join our JETS II contract team at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. This role involves functioning as the Engineering representative to the ISS Safety Review Panel (ISRP), contributing to all phases of a project from kick-off and development through product delivery for flight.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an integral member of the ISRP team for all project phases, including PDR, CDR, and product delivery for flight.
  • Perform technical reviews of simple and complex spaceflight payload systems, Government Furnished Equipment, or ISS systems regarding transport, interface, and operational parameters, ensuring sound engineering practices.
  • Interact with engineering subject matter experts, coordinating comments and providing feedback communications.
  • Support meetings with ISS Program leadership and participate in engineering working group meetings that support ISS safety panel reviews.
  • Identify and assess hazardous conditions, implementing controls and verifications for mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (ME, EE, Aerospace Engineering, or Aerospace Safety preferred).
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in the field or a related area (exact level may vary based on candidate experience and business needs).
  • Ability to work on multiple projects within matrix team environments and meet demanding schedules.
  • Minimum of 5 years of flight hardware experience.
  • Experience in the design and evaluation of electrical and mechanical systems, including avionics, electrical power distribution, hydraulic, pneumatic, pressure systems, pyrotechnics, mechanisms, and electromechanical devices.
  • Working knowledge of thermal analysis, stress analysis, and material science as applicable to mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with NASA standards, payload requirements, and the ISS Hazard System website/tools.
  • Experience with Spaceflight Safety certification and knowledge of crew requirements/preferences.
  • Proactive attitude in leading groups to resolve technical issues, with strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Systems Engineering experience.
  • Systems/Payload integrator experience.
  • System Safety experience at Johnson Space Center.
