Responsibilities
- Perform heavy physical duties involving a variety of semi-skilled or skilled tasks related to asphalt milling and paving, with duties varying by crew assignment.
- Specialize within a crew in roles such as Screed Person, Lute Person, QC Tech, Side Person (mill), Tack Truck Driver, Water Truck Driver, or Utility Adjustment Person.
- Handle shoveling, raking, luting, jack hammering, heavy lifting, and use of small tools for asphalt milling and paving.
- Clean tools, materials, and work areas.
- Perform manual tasks requiring fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination.
- Work safely and prioritize individual and crew safety; communicate clearly with crew members to ensure teamwork and daily goal completion.
- Depending on crew specialty, use hand and power tools, perform grade checks, direct equipment operations, and handle cuts and fills.
- Comply with all company policies, especially safety protocols ("Home Safe Tonight" and "AIPS").
Physical Demands
- Engage in extensive and heavy physical activity requiring dexterity and fine motor skills.
- Carry heavy loads of materials, sometimes up to 75 pounds.
- Work in all weather conditions.
- Stand, walk, reach, kneel, climb, or balance for extended periods.
- Use close, color, and peripheral vision.
Work Environment
- Prioritize safety for self and fellow workers.
- Work on rough graded and undeveloped job sites with potential safety hazards.
- Occasionally work in tight confined spaces such as manholes and inlets.
- Operate around heavy equipment, loud noises, and vibrations from tools.
- Work adjacent to live traffic on most days.
Qualifications
- GED or high school diploma (preferred).
- Trade school education (preferred).
- PennDOT Paving QC Technical experience (preferred).
- TopCon or similar grade control experience (preferred).
- CDL (Class A, B, Tanker, or Hazmat) (preferred).
- Tack Truck experience (preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of related work experience.
- Active, valid driver’s license.
- Good Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
