About the Role

A Patient Service Floater supports daily phlebotomy activities at Patient Service Centers (PSC) or as an In-office Patient Service Technician (PST), ensuring accurate and timely specimen collection. This role requires travel to client locations within a designated region, often with short notice, and involves professional interaction with clients, patients, and PathGroup personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to client assignments within a designated region on short notice.
  • Greet customers professionally and courteously.
  • Collect field and PSC specimens accurately and on time, following established procedures.
  • Explain venipuncture or other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) to reduce patient anxiety.
  • Dispose of biohazard fluids, tissues, and contaminated sharps in compliance with laws and policies.
  • Complete requisitions accurately in Pathconnect or other PathGroup applications.
  • Enter patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer systems with attention to detail.
  • Communicate with clients to verify orders, tests, and billing information (e.g., diagnosis codes, UPIN).
  • Research test and client information using lab computer systems.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
  • Package specimens for transport, ensuring integrity through proper storage and labeling.
  • Maintain required records, logs, and monthly statistics.
  • Perform basic clerical duties (filing, faxing, mail preparation) and electronic data entry.
  • Approve time in attendance software by noon on the Monday following the pay period.
  • Submit accurate expense and travel logs on Monday for the prior week or as directed.
  • Adhere to grooming, dress code, and lab coat policies; maintain a neat and professional appearance.
  • Manage fluctuating patient flow efficiently.
  • Display courteous and professional behavior toward clients, patients, and coworkers.
  • Answer telephones in a friendly and helpful manner, incorporating company name and self-identification.
  • Perform duties independently and communicate issues to supervisors for resolution.
  • Maintain a positive work climate and contribute to team efforts.
  • Ensure facilities are clean, neat, and in good repair; report maintenance needs.
  • Assist with periodic inventory counts and report shortages or problems.
  • Utilize proper PPE and adhere to lab safety precautions and procedures.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and sensitive company data in alignment with industry security practices.
  • Comply with the Corporate Compliance Program and all corporate policies, including Privacy and Security policies.
  • Collaborate with other PathGroup departments and subsidiaries as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
