About the Role

A Patient Service Floater performs daily phlebotomy activities in Patient Service Centers (PSC) or as an In-office Patient Service Technician (PST) under the direction of the area supervisor. This role requires travel to assist with coverage of client locations as needed, interacting professionally with clients, patients, and PathGroup personnel while performing specimen collection and processing duties.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to client assignments within a designated region with short notice.
  • Greet customers courteously and professionally.
  • Ensure accurate and timely collection of all field patient service and PSC specimens.
  • Collect specimens according to established procedures, explaining the process clearly to reduce patient anxiety.
  • Dispose of biohazard fluids, tissues, and contaminated sharps in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Complete requisitions accurately in Pathconnect and other PathGroup computer applications.
  • Enter patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into the computer with attention to detail.
  • Communicate with clients to verify orders, tests, and billing information (e.g., diagnosis codes, UPIN).
  • Research test and client information using the lab computer system.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
  • Package specimens for transport, ensuring proper temperature and labeling to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Maintain required records, logs, and monthly statistics.
  • Perform basic clerical duties, including filing, faxing, and preparing mail.
  • Approve time in attendance software and submit accurate expense and travel logs as directed.
  • Adhere to grooming, dress code, and lab coat policies; maintain a neat and professional appearance.
  • Manage fluctuating patient flow efficiently and professionally.
  • Communicate courteously with clients, patients, and co-workers to promote a cooperative work environment.
  • Answer telephones in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Perform duties independently and report pertinent issues to supervisors.
  • Maintain clean and well-repaired facilities; report needed repairs or maintenance.
  • Assist with periodic inventory counts and report shortages or problems.
  • Utilize proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to laboratory safety precautions.
  • Protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and company data.
  • Familiarize and comply with the Corporate Compliance Program and all corporate policies, including Privacy and Security policies.
  • Collaborate with other departments within PathGroup and subsidiaries as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
