About the Role
A Patient Service Floater supports daily phlebotomy activities at Patient Service Centers (PSC) or as an In-office Patient Service Technician (PST), ensuring accurate and timely specimen collection. This role requires travel to client locations within a designated region, often with short notice, and involves professional interaction with clients, patients, and PathGroup personnel.
Responsibilities
- Travel to client assignments within a designated region on short notice.
- Greet customers courteously and professionally.
- Collect field and PSC specimens accurately and on time, following established procedures for venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen types (e.g., urine, fecal).
- Explain specimen collection processes clearly to reduce patient anxiety and ensure a calm environment.
- Dispose of biohazard fluids, tissues, and contaminated sharps in compliance with laws, standards, and policies.
- Complete requisitions accurately in Pathconnect and other PathGroup computer applications.
- Enter patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into systems with attention to detail.
- Communicate with clients to verify orders, tests, and billing information (e.g., diagnosis codes, UPIN).
- Research test and client information using lab computer systems.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
- Package specimens for transport, ensuring integrity through proper storage, labeling, and adherence to protocols.
- Maintain proficiency in proper collection methods and processing of all specimens.
- Maintain required records, logs, and monthly statistics.
- Perform basic clerical duties (e.g., filing, faxing, mail preparation) and electronic data entry.
- Approve time in attendance software by noon on the Monday following the end of the pay period.
- Submit accurate expense and travel logs on Monday for the prior week or as directed.
- Adhere to grooming, dress code, and lab coat policies; maintain a neat and professional appearance.
- Manage fluctuating patient flow efficiently and professionally.
- Display courteous behavior to clients, patients, and co-workers, fostering a cooperative environment.
- Answer telephones in a friendly and helpful manner, incorporating company name and self-identification.
- Perform duties independently and communicate pertinent issues to supervisors for resolution.
- Contribute to a positive work climate and team effort.
- Ensure facilities are clean, neat, and in good repair; report maintenance needs to leadership.
- Assist with periodic inventory counts and report shortages or problems.
- Utilize proper PPE to ensure patient and personal safety; adhere to lab safety precautions and procedures.
- Protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and sensitive company data.
- Comply with the Corporate Compliance Program and all corporate policies, including Privacy and Security policies.
- Collaborate with other departments within PathGroup and subsidiaries.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
