About the Role

A Patient Service Floater supports daily phlebotomy activities at Patient Service Centers (PSC) or as an In-office Patient Service Technician (PST), ensuring accurate and timely specimen collection. This role requires travel to client locations within a designated region on short notice and involves professional interaction with clients, patients, and PathGroup personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to client assignments within a designated region with short notice.
  • Greet customers courteously and professionally.
  • Collect and process field patient service and PSC specimens accurately and on time.
  • Perform venipuncture and other specimen collections (e.g., urine or fecal) following established procedures, ensuring patient comfort and reducing anxiety.
  • Dispose of biohazard fluids, tissues, and contaminated sharps in compliance with laws, standards, and policies.
  • Complete requisitions accurately in Pathconnect and other PathGroup computer applications.
  • Enter patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer systems with attention to detail.
  • Communicate with clients to verify orders, tests, and billing information (e.g., diagnosis codes, UPIN).
  • Research test and client information using lab computer systems.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
  • Package specimens for transport, ensuring proper temperature and container use to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Maintain required records, logs, and monthly statistics.
  • Perform basic clerical duties, including filing, faxing, and mail preparation.
  • Approve time in attendance software by noon on the Monday following the end of the pay period.
  • Submit accurate expense and travel logs on Monday for the prior week or as directed by management.
  • Adhere to departmental and company grooming, dress code, and lab coat policies.
  • Manage fluctuating patient flow efficiently and professionally.
  • Display courteous and professional behavior to clients, patients, and co-workers.
  • Answer telephones in a friendly and helpful manner, incorporating company name and self-identification.
  • Perform duties independently and communicate pertinent issues to supervisors for resolution.
  • Maintain clean, neat, and well-repaired facilities; report repairs or maintenance needs to leadership.
  • Assist with periodic inventory counts and report shortages or problems to the group leader or supervisor.
  • Utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure patient and personal safety.
  • Follow laboratory safety precautions and procedures as outlined in manuals.
  • Protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and sensitive company data in alignment with industry best practices and regulatory guidelines.
  • Abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all corporate policies, including Privacy and Security policies.
  • Collaborate with other departments within PathGroup and subsidiaries.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
