About the Role
A Patient Service Floater supports daily phlebotomy activities at Patient Service Centers (PSC) or as an In-office Patient Service Technician (PST), ensuring accurate and timely specimen collection. This role requires travel to client locations within a designated region, often with short notice, and involves professional interaction with clients, patients, and PathGroup personnel.
Responsibilities
- Travel to client assignments within a designated region on short notice.
- Greet customers courteously and professionally.
- Collect field and PSC specimens accurately and on time, following established procedures for venipuncture and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal).
- Explain the collection process clearly to reduce patient anxiety and maintain a calm environment.
- Dispose of biohazard fluids, tissues, and contaminated sharps in compliance with laws, standards, and policies.
- Complete requisitions accurately in Pathconnect or other PathGroup computer applications.
- Enter patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into the system with attention to detail.
- Communicate with clients to verify orders, tests, and billing information (e.g., diagnosis codes, UPIN).
- Research test and client information using the lab computer system.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
- Package specimens for transport, ensuring proper labeling and adherence to protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
- Maintain proficiency in proper collection methods and processing of all specimens.
- Maintain required records, logs, and monthly statistics.
- Perform basic clerical duties, such as filing, faxing, and preparing mail, including electronic data entry.
- Approve time in attendance software by noon on the Monday following the end of the pay period.
- Submit accurate expense and travel logs on Monday for the prior week or as directed by management.
- Adhere to departmental and company grooming, dress code, and lab coat policies.
- Manage fluctuating patient flow efficiently while maintaining professionalism.
- Communicate courteously with clients, patients, and co-workers to promote a cooperative work environment.
- Answer the telephone in a friendly and helpful manner, incorporating company name and self-identification.
- Perform duties independently and escalate pertinent issues to supervisors or managers.
- Contribute to a positive work climate and team effort.
- Maintain clean and orderly facilities, reporting repairs or maintenance needs to supervisors.
- Assist with periodic inventory counts and report shortages or problems.
- Utilize proper PPE to ensure patient and personal safety, adhering to lab safety precautions and procedures.
- Protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and sensitive company data.
- Comply with the Corporate Compliance Program and all corporate policies, including Privacy and Security policies.
- Collaborate with other departments within PathGroup and subsidiaries.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
