About the Role
Registers patients in all settings and locations. Interviews patients to gather accurate demographic and financial information, entering it into the computer system. Works independently and as part of a team to ensure all information is correct and complete while ensuring patient satisfaction with each encounter.
Responsibilities
- Performs complete and accurate registrations for all patients:
- Uses AIDET technique when greeting patients.
- Works independently or as part of a team.
- Transfers work seamlessly at shift change.
- Maintains a 99% accuracy rate as measured by Meditech audit reports.
- Verifies insurance eligibility and acts on insurance responses.
- Requests and scans insurance cards for registered patients.
- Verifies and scans patient identity documentation.
- Explains registration information clearly to patients.
- Explains Patient’s Bill of Rights, Health Care Proxy, and privacy policies.
- Answers patient questions knowledgeably and professionally; redirects or finds answers if unknown.
- Enters accurate room assignment information for inpatient admissions, observation stays, and outpatient bed assignments:
- Selects the correct service for the patient as assigned, maintaining a 99% accuracy rate.
- Enters correct admitting, attending, and family physicians, maintaining a 99% accuracy rate.
- Selects the correct Requested Room Rate and Room Rate, maintaining a 99% accuracy rate.
- Requests co-payments from patients at the appropriate time:
- Uses eligibility verification to determine co-payment due, running eligibility software 100% of the time when possible.
- Requests co-payment at registration (Admitting Office or Prompt Care) or at discharge (ER).
- Verifies physician eligibility for participation in government programs during registrations:
- Uses Kchecks system to ensure provider eligibility for government programs in 100% of cases.
- Explains exclusions to patients when applicable.
- Performs other related duties as requested or directed.
Requirements
- High school diploma required; some college education preferred.
- Minimum of 6 months of experience in an office or customer service center.
- Experience in a medical setting is a plus.
Pay
$17.34–$23.96 per hour.
