Responsibilities

  • Answer phones and direct them to the appropriate doctors or staff members.
  • Schedule and/or cancel appointments.
  • Prepare charts for the following days by compiling appropriate electronic forms in charts, confirm patient appointments, and verify insurance benefits.
  • Greet patients to check in and out for appointment.
  • Review paperwork with patients and take copies of insurance cards.
  • Enter demographic and insurance information in software.
  • Collect co-pays, co-insurances, contact lens fitting fees, and any other payments due at the time of service.
  • Post charges and payments in system.
  • Scan and upload other paperwork as needed.
  • Ensure waiting area and patient areas neat and tidy.
  • Empty trash, vacuum, and wipe down surfaces to ensure a clean office.
  • Order contacts lenses.
  • Triage.
  • Travel to other offices as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • One year Customer/Patient Service Experience Required (optometry/ophthalmology experience a plus).
  • Patient Scheduling a plus.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, multi-task and proceed with objectives without supervision.
  • Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems.
  • Basic bookkeeping skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
