About the Role

We are seeking a hybrid Patient Service Coordinator (PSC) and Certified Medical Assistant (MA) to ensure patients have a positive experience at Johns Hopkins Rockland Clinic at Greenspring Station. This role involves both administrative coordination and direct patient care under physician supervision.

Responsibilities

Patient Service Coordinator Duties

  • Offer friendly, courteous, and confidential assistance to patients and providers.
  • Maintain accurate patient information to facilitate encounters using automated systems for scheduling, pre-registration, check-in, and check-out.
  • Schedule laboratory tests, exams, and consultations; relay preparation instructions to patients.
  • Coordinate visits within the department and answer routine phone inquiries.
  • Monitor voicemail, confirm appointments via telephone, Epic, or mail, and verify/pre-register patients by collecting demographic and insurance information.
  • Obtain pre-certifications as required by insurance and inform patients of care costs, directing them to appropriate resources.
  • Maintain electronic patient charts, send/monitor patient messages, and manage result letters.
  • Provide accurate and timely messages to providers and staff, and manage fax documents.
  • Fulfill HIPAA-compliant medical records requests and complete Infection Control screens during check-in.
  • Assist with efficient check-in/check-out, arrange patient transportation if needed, and provide patient demographics for hospital admissions.

Medical Assistant Duties

  • Participate in patient care under direct physician supervision and collaborate with the healthcare team.
  • Maintain inventory of clinical supplies and equipment, monitor expiration dates, and ensure compliance with HEIC and EOC protocols for patient safety.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills related to patient care and act as a role model for other medical assistants.
  • Obtain and record patient vital signs in Epic, monitor patient status, and report abnormal findings to the physician.
  • Review and document patient medication lists in Epic and complete prescription refill requests.
  • Maintain aseptic techniques and infection control during clinical duties.
  • Perform specialty-specific procedures safely and efficiently according to Clinical Practice Policy and Procedure.
  • Obtain, manage, and transport specimens, including labeling and log maintenance.
  • Perform quality control for waived testing and administer vaccinations as directed.
  • Recognize and respond to emergency events according to clinical guidelines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and certification/registration as a Medical Assistant (e.g., CMA, AAMA, RMA, AMT, NAHP).
  • One year of work experience in customer service.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience as permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Pay

Starting salary range: $16.60 - $29.50 hourly (targeted at $45,000 annually, commensurate with experience).

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Location

Johns Hopkins at Timonium, Department of SOM DOM Clinical Operations.
