About the role
The Patient Safety Associate supports the nursing staff by providing direct, continuous observation of patients to ensure their safety. Accountable to the clinical nurse or charge nurse, this role delivers excellent service to all customers and communicates effectively with team members.
Responsibilities
- Monitor the assigned patient and environment constantly for safety.
- Respond immediately and appropriately to staff inquiries and patient requests.
- Report patient behavior cues directly to nursing staff as needed.
- Ensure the environment is safe: verify safety alarms are active, remove unsafe items (e.g., sharp objects, cords, glass, metal cans), and eliminate tripping hazards.
- Assist patients with ambulation and transfers (in/out of bed/chair) with approval from the charge nurse or RN.
- Set up food trays for patients who can self-feed.
- Remain alert at all times; cell phone use, texting, and heavy reading are prohibited while observing patients.
- Document observations on the record throughout the shift and per protocol.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
Schedule
- Full-time, night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM.
Pay
Minimum starting salary: $15.07 per hour.
Location: TGH Crystal River (on-site; not eligible for remote work).
