As a member of the patient care team, the sitter works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse to observe and monitor the assigned patient’s behavior, immediately reporting any changes to the RN.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates commitment to customer service values: respect, courtesy, ownership, privacy, professionalism, and responsiveness.
- Collaborates with care team members to deliver quality, compassionate care to the patient and family.
- Maintains a healing environment and ensures patient comfort and privacy while preserving dignity.
- Maintains a safe environment at all times; intervenes if the patient is in danger of hurting themselves or others and calls for assistance.
- Does not leave the patient’s room without approval or coverage; waits outside the door if temporarily asked to leave during care.
- Obtains RN approval before leaving the room at a visitor’s request.
- Does not remove or adjust patient restraints; notifies the RN if the patient complains of discomfort or attempts to remove restraints.
- Ensures appropriate assistance is available before ambulating the patient and reinforces that the patient should not get out of bed or ambulate without help.
- Accompanies patients for clinical studies, documents observations, and notifies nursing personnel as needed.
- Assists with basic care requirements as delegated by the RN, including meals, bed making, and basic hygiene needs.
- Assists staff with patient ambulation when appropriate.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a formal CPR course is desirable.
Schedule
- Per Diem
- Daily work times: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- Hours per pay period: 8
- Weekends: Yes
