About the role
Provides Patient Care Services Representative coverage based on the Clinic requirements. Assumes all Patient Care Services Representative job responsibilities. Verifies established patient information to ensure accuracy and insurance information is correct. Collects co-pay and amounts due if applicable, giving each patient a receipt. Cooperates in cross-training others to ensure coverage at all times.
Responsibilities
- Verifies and updates patient information following patient registration criteria; obtains copies of insurance cards and makes corrections into computer immediately.
- Collects payments and informs patients of payment responsibility according to Business Office guidelines; balances and deposits payments on a daily basis.
- Schedules new and established patients according to the approved Clinic guidelines of each practitioner and the appointment scheduling policies and procedures; makes return appointments for patients within the scheduling guidelines; cancels and reschedules patients as needed.
- Follows protocol for all patients’ check-in; takes messages for the office staff and providers as requested and routes messages according to procedure.
- Prepares charts according to office procedure; assumes responsibility for initiating a pleasant, patient-oriented atmosphere by displaying a professional attitude through performance, appearance, and demeanor.
- Performs filing of documents daily in medical records; assumes maintenance responsibility for office equipment (fax, copier, printer, etc.).
- Assists in training of Patient Care Service staff in classroom and on-the-job settings.
- Responsible for following and keeping each provider’s schedule (e.g., out-of-office meetings, lunches, and/or vacations); updates provider’s calendar as needed in computer.
- May travel between departments and facilities to assist in coverage as required.
- Patient Representatives working in the Audiology department perform tasks prescribed, directed, and supervised by audiologists including:
- Testing equipment set up, operation and maintenance;
- Clinical procedures, device orientation and training;
- Hearing aid troubleshooting and repair;
- Maintaining records related to patients, supplies, equipment;
- Clinical activities including patient intake, scheduling, referral management, chart record-keeping, provider support requests, follow-up, customer service and other administrative support.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Must possess good written and verbal communication skills, typing, general clerical skills and excellent telephone skills.
- Medical terminology and one year medical office experience preferred.
