About the role
Part-time position at Reynoldsburg Freestanding ED (16 hours per week, 11 a–7:30 p.m.) with rotating weekends and holiday requirements. Floating responsibilities to Grant Medical Center. Scheduled days include Sunday, Friday, Monday, and Saturday.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Begins the Revenue Cycle process by collecting accurate demographic and financial information to produce a clean claim for timely reimbursement.
- Identifies patient in the EMR system and obtains/enters accurate demographic and financial information via phone, virtual, face-to-face, or bedside while maintaining confidentiality and providing exceptional customer service.
- Performs registration functions in any Patient Access area.
- Uses critical thinking to make decisions, resolve issues, and escalate concerns as needed.
- Uses various computer programs to enter and retrieve information.
- Verifies insurance eligibility via online systems, payer websites, or phone calls.
- Secures and tracks insurance authorizations and processes BXC patients.
- Transcribes ancillary orders and schedules outpatients.
- Generates, prints, and provides patient estimates using price estimator tools.
- Collects patient out-of-pocket expenses and past balances to meet individual and departmental goals; attempts to collect residual balances from previous visits.
- Answers questions about insurance residuals and self-pay accounts.
- Applies knowledge of CPT codes to accurately select codes from clinical descriptions.
- Generates regulatory documents and obtains consent signatures.
- Identifies and/or determines patient out-of-network acceptance into the organization.
- Reviews insurance information and discusses financial aid options with patients.
- Explains billing procedures, hospital policies, and provides appropriate literature and documentation.
- Scans required documents used for claim submission into the patient’s medical record.
- Escorts or transports patients safely and efficiently to and from various destinations.
- Assists clinical staff with administrative duties as needed.
- Complies with policies and procedures unique to each access area.
- Assists with training new associates.
- Oversees reception desks and lobbies, ensuring cleanliness and order.
- Registers patients or obtains consents on nursing units.
- Uses a multi-line phone system, transferring callers to appropriate locations and making reminder calls to patients.
- Processes offsite registrations, including paper registrations and pre-registered accounts.
- Maintains patient logs for statistical purposes.
- Reviews insurance information and determines the need for referrals and/or financial counseling.
- Educates patients on MyChart, including activation.
- May manage visitor management duties, including credentialing visitors and providing wayfinding assistance.
- As part of a High Reliability Organization, focuses on safety, quality, and efficiency in performing job duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED (required).
Additional Requirements
- Excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- One to two years of previous experience in a medical office setting.
