About the Role
Akumin, a leading provider of outpatient radiology and oncology services, is hiring a full-time Patient Navigator at our Plantation facility. As a Women's Health Patient Care Navigator, you will serve as the primary point of contact for patients requiring follow-up after a screening mammogram or other breast imaging, ensuring timely, compassionate, and coordinated care.
Responsibilities
- Manage a daily worklist of BI-RADS 0 patients to ensure timely outreach and scheduling of diagnostic imaging.
- Contact patients to communicate results, explain next steps, and schedule recommended follow-up appointments.
- Contact referrers to obtain orders and/or missing priors.
- Support specialized pathway enrollment, including calling referring physicians and engaging patients for scheduling (e.g., BRCA mutations, dense breasts, BIRADS 3 follow-ups).
- Build trust and confidence with patients by explaining next steps clearly and compassionately.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the breast navigation tracking system.
- Track and report on key performance indicators, including recall rates, diagnostic conversion, and follow-up completion rates.
- Identify process gaps and provide feedback to improve workflows and patient experience.
- Cover 3-5 imaging locations, with flexibility based on patient workload.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in breast health or women’s health.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage a high-volume workload.
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree or Equivalent Experience (preferred).
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Experience with RIS, EMR, or practice management systems (preferred).
- Knowledge of MQSA lay letter requirements and/or breast imaging compliance standards (preferred).
