This role answers all incoming calls on the main telephone line and professionally assists patients, family members, physicians, visitors, and employees with questions or directions.
Responsibilities
- Assists all patients, family members, physicians, visitors, and employees in a professional and courteous manner.
- Answers all incoming calls quickly and pleasantly, clearly identifying self and company greeting.
- Transfers patients and guests to the appropriate department.
- Verifies and registers vendors following policy procedures.
- Reviews all codes regularly and is prepared to call codes as directed or per policy.
- Pages/beeps providers on call as per policy.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction, and communication style.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements and ensures compliance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- 1 year of customer service experience (required).
- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
- Strong time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work both independently and with a team.
Physical and Environmental Demands
- Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible force frequently.
- Involves sitting most of the time but may require walking or standing for brief periods.
- Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid, or tissue.
- No occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases, though there may be risk for exposure to hazardous medications or waste within a healthcare setting.
