The Bed Board and Transfer Center Coordinator supports the Medical Center's emergency room (ER) and Level III Trauma Center, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care, and according to policy and procedures. This role collaborates with every unit in UCMC, involves complex problem-solving, and is part of a growing system-wide initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate daily processes to expedite patient movement within the hospital and accept new patients without delay.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate patient transfers while adhering to patient-centered care principles.
  • Coordinate, prioritize, and optimize patient flow activities.
  • Expedite patient transfers from outside hospitals, ensuring accurate physician connections to maintain an optimized referral center.
  • Provide direction and coordination to healthcare providers for patient movement.
  • Collaborate with physicians, care coordinators, and software systems to ensure timely transfer coordination.
  • Assist with transferring patients to higher or lower levels of care as needed.
  • Serve as the contact person for bed management regarding admission concerns.
  • Ensure unit throughput and compliance with the transfer process.
  • Function as a team member to support unit and hospital goals.
  • Prioritize and perform multiple tasks effectively in a time-sensitive environment to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Coordinate with physicians, nursing units, transportation, and environmental services regarding bed placement.
  • Communicate new admission information to clinical unit nursing staff and develop a plan for acceptance within 30 minutes.
  • Remain calm and provide solutions during high call volume or limited bed capacity, demonstrating problem-solving skills.
  • Interact courteously and tactfully with others, displaying respect, trust, and caring.
  • Listen effectively, accept constructive criticism, and remain open to opposing viewpoints.
  • Promote team momentum, enthusiasm, and UC Health PRIIDE values.
  • Seek improvements in work and align them with departmental and organizational strategy.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of equivalent customer service experience.
