Patient Financial Counselor - Onsite
Providence is calling for a Patient Financial Counselor to join our team onsite in a full-time, day-shift role. Patient Financial Counselors have direct interaction with patients and their families either on the phone or in person, easing the way in resolution of patient accounts through financial clearance, payment collection, obtaining sponsorship, and financial assistance.
About the role
The Patient Financial Counselor identifies eligibility, provides education, and completes and submits applications for various State and Federal sponsorship programs. They assist patients and make eligibility determinations for Providence St. Joseph Health Financial Assistance. Duties and behaviors are performed in a manner that reflects Providence's mission, philosophy, and core values.
Responsibilities
- Direct interaction with patients and families to resolve financial accounts
- Financial clearance and payment collection
- Obtain sponsorship and financial assistance for patients
- Identify eligibility for State and Federal sponsorship programs
- Provide education and complete/submit applications for assistance programs
- Make eligibility determinations for Providence St. Joseph Health Financial Assistance
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2 years' experience in a hospital, clinic, or healthcare business office
- 3 years' experience or proven success as a Patient Financial Advocate Associate, preferably with Providence St. Joseph Health or its Affiliates
- 2 years' experience in automated, computerized account follow-up system required, preferably in Epic
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with medical and health plan terminology

Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
Pay
Pay range: $17.12 - $26.18 per hour (base pay). The successful candidate's placement on the wage range will be determined based on relevant job experience and other applicable factors.
